Wow! It has been a toasty hot few days!
The beautiful green landscape is starting to turn yellow and the shoreline at the marshes has gone from a soft, fun mud-bath to a desert floor. It’s parched and cracked. It looks like the gnarly bark of the big, ancient redwood trees that I sniff along the trail near home. Mummy said it looks like the skin of a giant bull elephant. I don’t know what an elephant is but I sat down and smiled politely at her, pretending that I understood and agreed. Sometimes mummy says the strangest things!

It was a beautiful evening but still hot. It was as if the earth was holding in the heat of the sun. So I loitered closer and closer to the edge of the water until mummy eventually let me go in and cool down. This was a rare treat as I am not usually allowed to swim where the marsh birds live. They get scared when I come running in, goofing and splashing about. However I think the birds had all gone to bed early as I had the whole pool to myself this evening. What a treat!
Eventually mummy said it was time to stop swimming and head home. It really was a lovely evening and as the sun began to set, I shook off the water and thought about how much fun it would be to come back and do it all over again the next day. I’ll ask mummy later if we can. When I ask her what an elephant is.
