The Sun Sets on Another Daddy Birthday

I can hardly believe that daddy is almost 7 years old in dog years! He celebrated by going out on a big bike ride, most of which was in torrential rain. Mummy and I were confused about where he went because we spent the day in the sun and managed to avoid all the rain. While daddy spent time stretching the cold out of his limbs, mummy and I went to the beach to watch the sun set on daddy’s birthday. Of course, an important part of any trip to the beach is to pretend to hide my tennis ball in the nearest clump of kelp or seaweed and then claim it has been stolen by the terrible sea plant. This is then followed up by rapidly shaking the seaweed to make it let go of my ball!Sometimes I have to pull that seaweed away from my ball, like a long, salty string of oceanic spaghetti. Other times, I have to tackle it at the roots and bite great clumps of kelp roots away from my ball. This seaweed can be quite the challenger! It really is quite good fun pulling the stringy plant about and giving it a good shake! I make the funniest faces when I shake the seaweed really hard. It makes mummy and daddy laugh a lot. Even I’m trying not to laugh in this photo! All good things come to an end and eventually even I get bored of shaking seaweed about. So that’s when I turn my attention to sticks! Or in this case, a log.I can’t believe that I managed to pick this one up and carry it up the beach. There’s life in this old dog yet!The sun started to set as mummy and I made our way along the beach. The low light made for some very atmospheric shots of me…or at least that’s what mummy said. Mummy likes to take arty shots like the one below. All I saw was another large stick for chewing. Mummy wasn’t at all pleased when I tried to chew this one!Eventually, after much time wasted taking arty shots of sticks that would be better as chew toys, we made it to the far end of the beach and I got to explore this amazing waterfall that was running off the land, over the rocks and onto the beach. It felt lovely and cool on my toes. I felt quite peaceful standing in it while I watched the sun go down. But then it was time to head home for daddy’s birthday dinner. And so the sun sets on another daddy birthday….and me chewing one last stick.
