The Tide Is High And I’m Having Fun!

This morning I limped a lot. I was tired and could only walk for 15 minutes. Mummy and daddy were very worried. Truth be told, I was bored! I didn’t fancy walking around our usual spot and because I can’t speak Human, I decided to schlep along so they’d get the hint. Which they did! We were back in the car and having snacks before I even had a chance to say “Who let the dogs out?”.

Then this afternoon, we all went to Hauke Park, which admittedly is also a “usual spot” but this time it was different. It was a VERY HIGH TIDE!!

Looks like the pool’s open!

I literally ran to the river, completely forgetting that I have arthritis or that my right shoulder is painful. I also forgot that I had been play-acting this morning. I was so busted!! Mummy and daddy were just relieved that I was able to trot at high speed into the waters edge!

The tide was so high that it only took a few steps before I was swimming around and around. The water was lovely and cool, and I kept barking at mummy and daddy to let them know that they should jump in too.

They didn’t seem to fancy it and preferred to watch me swim round and round in circles. They laughed at me and said I looked like a giant otter. I have no idea what an otter is but it must be something good. It must be something that swims a lot and is very good at floating about in the water. That’s a great compliment for me – and the otter!

At one point, mummy walked along the bridge, encouraging me to swim along underneath her. It was so much fun following along with mummy. The water got very deep but I wasn’t afraid because mummy was there with me, telling me I could do it and what a good boy I was.

Before I knew it, I had swum right across the river! I stood on the other side for a while, looking around in bewilderment. Mummy, look how far I swam!!

Then I swam all the way back again! Two more times!! Daddy said I was a clever boy and was swimming laps just like him!

It really was a great afternoon. It made me feel like a young pup again!
