Independence Day Power Down

The July 4th celebrations were much more subdued this year because all the humans are still in quarantine. No big parades….but there were still a lot of fireworks. For the whole week! Luckily, I’m not really bothered by the loud bangs that fireworks make. Maybe it’s because I know mummy and daddy will protect me. Or maybe it’s because I’m a much more mellow old dog these days.

Being mellow is just how us old dogs are. The simple things in life make us happy. Like eating, sleeping, hanging out with our pack, playing in water, snoozing, treats….did I mention having long naps? I think daddy wants to be an old dog too because I’ve noticed that more and more, he wants to eat, cuddle with me and have naps. Daddy said it’s because in difficult times like the COVID-19 lockdown, it is important to be still and in the moment.

This recharging must take a lot of practice because daddy and I frequently like to take time out for these power downs. And today mummy looked out the kitchen window to see us practicing and enjoying one of our power downs. Mummy called it chilling. Daddy calls it meditating. I call it true independence!
